Project Spotlight: Custom Metal Fabrication for Blue Jays at The Rogers Centre
The Challenge
The Rogers Centre, home of the Toronto Blue Jays, needed a series of custom metal bat design parts for their indoor food court fans. The project required high precision, with tight tolerances of +/- .020″, and a smooth finish on the cutting edges. Our client “Venture Metal Works” supplied 1″ thick carbon steel sheets (4′ x 8′) and needed a total of 160 parts. With a tight deadline, the challenge was to produce these parts quickly while maintaining the quality and accuracy required.
The Solution
Materials: 1″ THK Carbon Steel sheets, sized at 4′ x 8′, provided by the client.
Size: Each bat design was meticulously cut to meet the exact specifications.
Cutting Method: We utilized our two waterjet cutting systems, known for their precision and ability to maintain tight tolerances. This method was ideal for handling the thick carbon steel and ensuring the smooth edges that the client required.
Turnaround Time: To meet the client’s urgent timeline, we operated both waterjet systems across two shifts, including weekend work. Each part required about an hour to cut, allowing us to complete the full order of 160 parts efficiently.
